We arrived in Astoria at 7 AM and this place is right out of the movies…amazing scenery. A river pilot brought the ship up the Columbia river and we anchored just off shore, I had no idea a river could be that massive. After a tour of town we headed up to the Astoria Tower for an incredible view, it was worth the climb. (All 164 steps) This is really a neat place and the locals were great, the ships come thru twice a year and they treat the tourists well. Astoria was the 1st settlement west of the Mississippi and has a great maritime museum. The Kevin Costner movie the Guardian was also filmed here.
